Patient Follow-up

  • Telephone follow up within 48-72 hours to assess for clinical stability, symptom burden, and adverse medication effect
  • Refer the patient to a physician if there is a lack of improvement in symptoms, evidence of clinical instability, or adverse medication effects causing discontinuation of medication
    • Symptoms requiring referral include: persistent pain in the legs and calves, severe chest pain, shortness of breath, hematemesis, symptoms consistent with an allergic reaction, new-onset headaches, weakness, numbness, tingling, difficulty speaking, new-onset vision loss, yellowing of the skin or eyes, persistent nausea and vomiting, change in color of stool or urine, pain, swelling, or tenderness of the lower abdomen, a new breast lump, heavy menstrual bleeding, concern that a device has broken
