Barriers to Contraceptive Use

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) lists several barriers preventing women from accessing contraception.12 These barriers include knowledge deficits, legal restrictions, out-of-pocket costs, insurance coverage, health care inequities, and religious or personal beliefs. Pharmacists are uniquely suited to discuss these barriers with patients and provide recommendations for the appropriate contraceptive method.
